Inclusion

At HSBC, we have always brought different people and cultures together. Diversity and inclusion is an important part of who we are.

We want a connected workforce that helps us meet the needs of our customers and reflects the communities we are a part of. Different ideas and perspectives help us create opportunities, innovate, manage risk and grow in a sustainable way, bringing benefits to our customers, our business and our people.

We want HSBC to be a place where people are valued and supported to achieve their potential. Everyone at HSBC is expected to treat each other with dignity and respect, creating an inclusive culture to support equal opportunities. We do not tolerate discrimination, bullying, harassment and victimisation on any grounds.

We take active steps to remove barriers and encourage people from a broad range of backgrounds to apply for jobs, work and grow at HSBC. Examples of how we ensure a diverse and inclusive culture include:

  • Working with our recruitment partners, including specialist firms, to improve representation of candidates from under-represented groups
  • Mandatory training for all hiring managers, to help us attract and hire the strongest candidates from diverse talent pools and address bias
  • Investing in learning, upskilling and development to ensure everyone has access to opportunities, including our Future Skills curriculum and our leadership accelerator programmes for diverse talent
  • All members of our Group Executive Committee, as well as many in their management teams, are actively sponsoring colleagues from under-represented groups to help diversify our talent pipeline
  • Wherever possible, we support our employees who want to adopt flexible and alternative ways of working

We have eight global employee networks, bringing together tens of thousands of employees around the world with shared characteristics and common interests, as well as inclusion allies. Our networks focus on age, disability and mental health, ethnicity, faith, gender, LGBT+, and working parents and carers. The eighth network, HSBC Communities, consists of groups formed on a range of topics, including flexible working and mindfulness. The insight and experiences from the networks help inform the commitments and actions we take.

We are facilitating growth and creating opportunities for those both inside and outside HSBC. Through our charitable partnerships and volunteering opportunities, we encourage people to share their skills and create a positive impact on society. We also take an inclusive approach to our commercial activity through initiatives such as Gender Lens Finance.
